PNG vs JPG vs WebP: Which Format Should You Use?

Use PNG for transparency or lossless graphics, JPG for photos and broad compatibility, and WebP when you want small files with support for both photos and transparency.

PNG

PNG supports alpha transparency and lossless compression. It is a strong choice for logos, stickers, interface assets and images that need further editing, but photos are often large.

JPG

JPG does not support transparency. It works well for photos and smooth gradients; lower quality usually means a smaller file but more visible compression artifacts.

WebP

WebP supports lossy, lossless and transparent images and often produces efficient web files. Check compatibility with the software or platform receiving the image.
